Bio

Darlyn started out as a fusion from the musical worlds of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. With their great passion for early 70s music, Darlyn managed to find a perfect balance between roots and modern pop music. Upbeat, sometimes intimate and small, but also, steaming and rocking is a good way to describe their music. Catchy songs and musical craftsmanship are the basis on which singer Diwa Meijman fully shows her vocal abilities. With playful ease, Diwa sings about fears, dreams, and love stories. Her words make you think and simultaneously, leaving room for interpretation….

Darlyn’s previous singles: 'Stepping Stone' and 'I Think We're Alone Now', both got named Top Song at NPO Radio 2. Besides, the band was invited several times by the radio show Tros Muziekcafe, and radio DJs such as Rob Stenders and Paul Rabbering. Darlyn also made guest appearances on the Dutch talkshow De Wereld Draait Door. Furthermore, Darlyn’s status as a live band was praised in the late summer of 2020 by the renowned Zilveren Notekraker. During performances at prestigious festivals including Eurosonic-Noorderslag, Ribs & Blues, and Zwarte Cross, the band proved that also live they could staggeringly deliver their songs.

In 2020, a national club tour was planned for Darlyn’s new album ‘Was It a Dream’. Inevitably, the pandemic disrupted the works of a spring tour and summer festival, and as a result, Darlyn was only able to play one live show. Yet this period also brought them something positive; during the quarantine, the band was able to get closer than ever to their fans via several live streams, and it gave them time to write new music. Sitting home all day gave Darlyn a new perspective on life, carried by self-reflection and growth towards maturity. Diwa explains, “As an artist, we were limited these past few months, but looking back, it also feels like a valuable period. There was a lot of time to fully focus on writing and recording, and in that, we grew closer as a band. In addition, dark and sad moments also inspired us to take a different look at life and certain themes and experiences. In that respect, I feel that we have become much more personal and outspoken on a textual level.”

Their personal journey helped them to create their new single: 'Take Me Home'. The song will be the first lead single for their upcoming album. In the course of 2021 and early 2022, more music will follow. With Darlyn’s upcoming album now set in spring 2022, the band will then finally be able to continue their long-awaited album tour, in which they will play their previous and new album in just one show.
